Zuppler Announces Forecast Report for Restaurant Industry; Projection of 175% growth in software and services for 2022 and a push towards local deliveryConshohocken, Pennsylvania (RestaurantNews.com) Zupplera global software and services company focused on empowering solutions for the foodservice industry, today announced its 2022 forecast report, specific to software and services and its impact on customer experience.

The upheaval caused by the crisis in the restaurant industry is driving innovation, but the uncertainty around technology strategy and tools to navigate the customer journey has been a challenge. The forecast models for 2022 were created using aggregate data from the Zuppler database, as well as information from key research companies and in-house analysts.

“Everything from COVID-19 safety advice to supply chain disruptions, labor challenges and a long list of changing customer behaviors add to the headwinds that continue to have an impact on the restaurant industry,” said Zuppler CEO Shiva Srinivasan. “We continue to monitor new technologies for both operational efficiencies and customer experience improvements.”

The global online food delivery market will bring in up to $152 billion in sales, a 10% year-over-year jump. Zuppler predicts this will grow another 10%, and restaurants that focus on communicating with customers and improving experiences will capture more market share.

Zuppler breaks down its analysis and expected metrics for 2022:

  • Menu Usage – Next year will see a 45% increase in investments for websites, images and digital tools for online and on-site ordering.
  • One of the most dramatic increases in 2022 will be the rise of artificial intelligence to improve the customer experience. Zuppler predicts a 175% increase in the overall use of AI-enabled products.
  • Continuing to leverage digital footprint, next year we will see a 65% increase in SEO to capitalize on searches by allowing consumers to order online directly from restaurants using Google Search, Google Maps, Google Assistant, Google Home and Google Pay.
  • As the food journey embraces digital transformation, 2022 will drive the need for device-agnostic ordering capabilities. Zuppler expects 120% growth in mobile online and restaurant order volume.
  • Ghost kitchens will increase order volume by 185%, with key regions including the UK, US and India.
  • One statistic to watch will be the change in delivery service providers. Zuppler estimates that 45% more business will contract with local delivery companies to compete in the highly competitive delivery industry, capitalizing on regional and city opportunities.

“As consumers become more savvy and expectations continue to push restaurants to digitize the experience, transparency and real-time communication in the food journey is essential,” Srinivasan added. “The brand and identity must remain intact as integration with point-of-sale, payment, website ordering and Google online ordering increases.
